OAKLAND, California — Many area residents don't even know about the Oakland California Temple grounds or that they are open to the public, said Max Simpson, a missionary with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Simpson is from Hooper, Utah, and runs the temple visitors' center. "This is the best kept secret in Oakland," he said. He is trying to spread the word about Temple Hill in the hope people will come enjoy the grounds.
