SALT LAKE CITY | 28 Sep 2007 | More than five and a half million Mormon women in over 170 countries will be invited to attend or watch via satellite the annual worldwide Relief Society general meeting of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, 29 September. This year marks the 165th anniversary of the Relief Society ? an organization designed specifically for the women of the Church. The small founding group in Nauvoo, Illinois, in the mid-1800s comprised women from different backgrounds and circumstances ? three of them were in their late teens, some were raising families and others were single. Church President Joseph Smith made the Relief Society an official part of the Church organization.
