RICHLAND, Washington — Richland city manager John Darrington was first called to missionary work at the age of 19. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent him to Minnesota, where he taught others about the Church by going door-to-door. "It was a watershed experience for me," he said. Now at 60, he hopes to help shape the lives of young missionaries in the same way Church leaders inspired him as a teen. Darrington plans to retire in June to serve as a mission president.
